Your Closet and its Blissful Potential
Okay, I’m going to get right into this burning question: Can someone please tell me why people are not unlocking the untapped potential of their closets? WHYYY would you ever allow yourself to wear a bad outfit? Seriously, why?
People may tell you not to be superficial. People may tell you appearances aren’t everything, but appearances do mean something. Now, by no means am I suggesting your entire life revolve around your wardrobe. I am simply saying what you wear can have a direct correlation to how you feel.
The power of fashion is truly amazing. Never forget that fashion is art. The way you express yourself through style is literally a form of displaying artwork. When people hear the term “fashion is art,” they often think of Avant-garde runway or couture looks. People fail to realize creativity can and should inhabit their daily lives. For example, try repurposing old clothing items. If you genuinely can’t figure out a way to make a particular item current again, THROW IT OUT. It has to go.
Clothes have this uncanny ability to make you feel like the most confident woman in the room or the most inadequate. Do not equate your worth to the price of your clothes, but do give your style repertoire the TLC it deserves. For example, but for the exception of days you’re running late, do not go to work wearing “just anything.” I always, ALWAYS plan what I am going to wear the night prior. I encourage you to do the same. This allows me to wake up stress-free and excited to grace the public with my outfit. Shoot, I am already planning what I will be wearing this Saturday.
I can not overstate the confidence that stems from taking your style seriously. Wearing clothes that flatter your shape, fit properly, and are up to date can make all the difference in your personal and professional life. I also want to encourage people to realize it’s never too late to reinvent your personal style. Don't ever hesitate to take it to the next level. You are always one stylish pair of shoes away from having a good day.
Another crucial habit of those with good style is learning about fabrics. Friends are always taking me shopping with them either via phone or in person. My friends and boyfriend will tell you, my favorite word is “luxe.” I do not care what the price tag says, if that material looks cheap, I can not advise you to buy it. I am constantly inspecting things through that lens. Ladies, budget or not… I can make sure you look GLAM. All you need is the eye for it. Side note, this is not a financial blog because LAWDD SAVE US, I have expensive taste and I don’t want to corrupt anyone. Pray for me.
I have made my best case for joining my crusade of “No Bad Outfits.” I hope I have changed some minds. At the very least, I hope I have encouraged some of you to step up your style game.
I genuinely believe the old adage, “when you look good, you feel good.” I do not want to see bad postured, poorly dressed, women with low self-esteem out in these streets! It breaks my heart that any of God’s precious children hang their head low. I want you to walk out of your house with your head held high, confidence overflowing, and a pair of shoes that will have everybody talking.
Tell me the last time you wore your favorite shoes and had a bad day?
